  • Kickstarter Pick: sci-fi platformer Beyond Human is heavy on atmosphere

    Published at IndieGames.com - 17 readers

If you're going to cite games like Metroid, Guacamelee and Devil May Cry as influences for your new gaming project, you better make sure whatever you show lives up to that claim. Luckily, Beyond Human appears to do just that. Blending fast-paced melee combat with the loneliness of isolated space exploration could be a winning combo after all.

  • Red Cobra mixing SHMUP and metroidvania genres, is really kind of beautiful

The stunning Red Cobra is one of the newest games to enter the crowdfunding ring, and it's bringing elements of twin-stick shooting and metroidvania exploration with it. Players can fire their weapon in any direction which is a huge departure for a genre that usually fires in one direction.

  • Dual-character action platformer Virus takes on Mega Man X formula, crowdfunding now

IndieGames.com - - 13 readers - Much like 2D Metroid and 2D Castlevania, 2D Mega Man (or heck, any Mega Man for that matter) has become something that feels like we'll never see again. And much like those properties, the fans have learned that if you want to play a new entry, it'll have to come from somewhere else. That's not to say Virus is a direct clone of Mega Man X, but it's vastly inspired by it.

  • Prophour23 is a compact yet fully-fleshed RTS game with character

… strategy is familiar and the game seems really well balanced. The pace and difficulty ramp up quickly after giving the player some time to get started, and since the game is short and can't be saved... it's a kind of permadeath RTS. People interested in games that break the mold are also likely to find Prophour23 up their alley. It's available for Windows, Mac, and Linux directly from the developer or via Steam. [Prophour23] …

… of a kid singing to himself? The pinball mechanics, as always, feel great. Rarely does a ball feel like it is being bounced back into a dead zone, breaking momentum.
